"Civilized Rizhao Takes the Lead—Let’s Be the Main Force in Building a Model City" Initiative Letter

Release date:

2020-07-24

To all employees of the Group: Currently, the entire city is working tirelessly to secure its place in the next round of the National Civilized City assessment. This marks the first major evaluation since Rizhao was recognized as a National Civilized City back in 2017—a milestone that holds immense significance for our city, now entering its third decade of development. On July 15, the city held a crucial meeting to advance the nationwide effort toward becoming a Civilized City, rallying everyone to firmly commit to winning this critical "battle." Every citizen is not only a beneficiary of a civilized city but also a key participant and driving force in building it. We all have both the responsibility and the duty to take the lead in contributing our efforts to this vital initiative. With this in mind, we issue an appeal to every employee of the Group: Let’s start with "Civilized Traffic"—and set the example by practicing civilized walking habits!

To all employees of the Group:
Currently, the entire city is working tirelessly to secure its place as a new national civilized city—this marks the first comprehensive reassessment since Rizhao was recognized as a National Civilized City in 2017, making it an especially significant milestone for the city, which is now entering its thirties. On July 15, a city-wide meeting was held to advance the efforts toward becoming a National Civilized City, rallying everyone to resolutely win this tough battle. Every citizen is not only a beneficiary of a civilized city but also a key participant and frontline advocate in building it, bearing both the responsibility and duty to lead by example and contribute their own strength to this vital initiative. To that end, we issue an appeal to all employees of the group:
One
"Leading the Way: Civilized Traffic Starts with Me"
Practice civilized behavior: don’t run red lights; cross streets safely by avoiding climbing over railings or straying into green spaces—instead, use designated crosswalks; board vehicles in an orderly manner, respecting seniors and children, and avoid pushing or shoving. Drive responsibly—no speeding, no driving against traffic, and absolutely no drunk driving. While on the road, refrain from using your phone, and never spit or litter out of the vehicle. Use headlights appropriately during nighttime driving. Park wisely, following parking rules, ensuring cars are neatly arranged without blocking others or obstructing pedestrian pathways—including keeping clear of tactile paving for the visually impaired. Show courtesy to others by yielding the right-of-way—don’t compete for lanes or rush ahead aggressively. Avoid driving “arrogant” or “road-rage” vehicles, and never change lanes recklessly or cut in front of others. Before crossing at zebra crossings, slow down and give pedestrians the right of way. Vehicles and pedestrians should stay in their designated lanes, and non-motorized vehicles must yield to turning traffic on the right when encountering a red light.
Two
"Leading by Example: Practicing Civilized Dining"
Observe table manners, dine politely, be courteous to others, maintain dining order, and cherish the dining environment. Speak with grace—avoiding noise and unnecessary chatter. Embrace a balanced, scientifically informed diet rich in nutrients, prioritizing health over excess. Refrain from excessive alcohol consumption and overeating, and consciously break free from unhealthy eating habits. Always practice responsible spending, value every grain of food, eliminate waste by ordering wisely and packing leftovers. Stay grounded in simplicity, rejecting extravagance and ostentation at the table.
Three
"Responsible Tourism" Starts with Me
Maintain environmental hygiene, uphold public order, protect the ecological environment, preserve cultural relics and historical sites, cherish public facilities, respect the legitimate rights of others, practice courteous behavior, and promote healthy forms of recreation. Let’s truly commit to abandoning harmful tourism habits, embracing civilized travel and sightseeing, fostering harmony between people and nature, and showcasing the refined and cultured spirit of our employees.
Four
"I'll Take the Lead in Surfing the Web Responsibly"
Consciously abide by the country's laws, regulations, and policies; champion advanced culture, respect the spirit of science, and uphold societal integrity. Strengthen your awareness of online ethics, discern right from wrong, embrace virtue, and reject negativity. Uphold civilized internet usage to foster a healthy, orderly, and harmonious online environment, thereby contributing to the vibrant growth and development of online cultural initiatives.
Five
"I'll Go First" with Volunteer Service
Upholding the volunteer spirit of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress," we actively participate in volunteer activities such as promoting Lei Feng's legacy and engaging in civility advocacy. Let's strive to become pioneers, ambassadors, practitioners, and driving forces behind building a civilized society, while safeguarding Rizhao's vibrant urban order and fostering even greater improvements in the civic awareness and etiquette of all residents.
Rizhao is our shared home, and urban civility requires us to work together to create it. Let’s take immediate action—starting right now, focusing on small yet meaningful steps, and making a difference in our daily lives. Together, let’s use civilized words and actions to cultivate Rizhao’s even more breathtaking beauty, building a brighter, better future for Rizhao in the new era.
